Default 2014 National Land Rover Rally Moab

So I see there is a national rally Sept 16th through the 20th in Moab, UT.

Any one here been to one of these? What exactly goes on here. Long story short Ive got a stock LR3 and Ill have a wife and six year old in tow. Ive tried reaching out to the Solihull Society for more info but all I get is the Rally Registration Form back. Its a bit pricey but very well may be worth the price but I dont know exactly what events are going on.

If any one can expand on what family freindly, stock LR3 friendly, things that go on at a National Rally I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I attended the 2010 Rally when it was held in Moab. Its a great time. I would definitely say do it if you can.
There were 3 days of official trail riding, a cocktail party, vendor night, and a closing dinner.
Each day we met at the arena parking lot. The trail guides would park and the line to run whatever trail they were leading would form behind them. The trail guides are usually pretty good. They have run the trails before and can give you a good idea of what trails you should/shouldn't go on.
Its definitely family friendly.
Definitely stock LR3 friendly. Moab has tons of trails and they're almost all slickrock. The LR3 will climb like a mountain goat. You're biggest problem will be approach and departure angles. But if you go slow you should be fine.
The day of the Vendor Show there's no official trail runs. Guys either group up and run trails on their own or take in the sights in Arches or Canyonlands National Parks.
The trails in Moab are awesome. Meeting different Rover owners from all over the country is a lot of the fun, too.
Not sure which way you're coming from but if you can take Hwy 128 into Moab from US70, its much more scenic.

Here's a link to my pictures from the 2010 Rally. Each day has a sub-folder.

Here's a link to pretty good descriptions of the trails and GPS tracks of them as well.

That does sound like an awesome time. My biggest concern was about it being a family friendly event that my 6 year old wont be too bored at and what exactly is included in the price...

Gotta get the vacation request approved by big boss man first but I think Im in!

All that fishEH states is very true. Great event with probably 150-200 Rovers usually. Lots of nice people and an awesome mix of trucks. I attended a couple of them. You won't be disappointed and neither will your family. They will have a mix of easy, moderate, and hard trails to choose from each day. If you have never been to the Moab area then this is a great way to get acquainted with it. There is so much great scenery and so many fun trails. Definitely see the awesome Arches NP when not on a run. There is river raft/power boat running available on the Colorado plus great hiking in the area as well. Moab is pretty busy so if you are moteling get your room reserved ASAP. Here are more trail descriptions by RR4W.

To be honest, if your kid isn't into Land Rovers and being driven over rough terrain, then yes, they will be bored. My kids have only ever known and enjoyed driving off road - because I'm a big fan of such events. If you put effort in, they will. If you're just another LR owner who is along for the ride, the kid won't engage either. These events take a lot of organization - especially the national one. Land Rovers are usually owned by people who can afford them (including the gas to drive them there and back, prepare them for off road etc.) so the cost is what it is. It's like all hobbies. You do it because you enjoy it, the cost is secondary. Family means you can take your kids/dog/grannie and if all goes well, they won't get very dirty/wet/hurt. There's not usually alcohol (provided/encouraged) either.

Default 2010 Rally Pictures.

Some 2010 Rally pictures. It is a fun event plus the town of Moab has great dining. There's a water park as well on the N side of town. One should go to at least one Rally be it in Colorado or Moab.

Oh I forgot. The first days of trails there is a "new driver training" run. Basically if you're new to offroading its supposed to be a pretty good trailride.
