Winter Romp 2017
Winter Romp 2017 is coming. Who is getting their Rovers ready to head out into the middle of nowhere Maine? By that I mean Waterville of course.
Fantastic event that is a Rover Tradition.
intro
I have gone for the last 3 events and this year will be no different. One of the best things about having the Best 4x4xFar is getting out and using it. You will meet some fantastic folks in the community, gain 4 pounds eating at Big G's (bring cash) and finish the night out over a brew in the Laundry room with Pizza. Long story but some of you know......
So check the fluids break out the long johns grap some Coffee and come on out to Winter Romp!!!!

It's looking like snow-mageddon up there in Maine, but I'll be nice and warm inside the Lucky8 LR3 with the butt toaster on high.
I'll start doing posts on the road trip from Georgia to Clarence Center NY (Lucky8 World Headquarters). Where I will hop in the truck with the Lucky8 crew for the ride to Maine. I will do my best to update this thread throughout the event with pics (of rovers stuck in the snow for miles)

We ran into a slight delay, we lost one of the dual tires on the passenger side of the trailer. By lost it I mean the entire thing was gone, studs, lug nuts tire and rim.
So we have been delayed till morning so we can make repairs. No worries we had our own mini-romp party in Massachusetts.

Alright so the trailer was fine for 350 miles before we lost the lugs.
Then we found ourselves here....
So we found a new hub installed it, had a quick bite to eat and got back on the road.
Then 25 miles out the spare decided it hated us....
We got the trucks unloaded...
Got out to the trails
Beautiful country up here!
So then we got some dinner...
Tomorrow more trails and winter romp fun

Ok so Romp has ended and the dust settled along with 20+ hours of driving from Maine to New York to Georgia.
First things first, Never again will I rent a Hyundai with no cruise control. Also has terrible seats
The Waterville Grand Hotel always seems prepared to deal with the Land Rover Community descending on it this weekend year after year. This year was slightly different as it seemed the Hotel staff was angry with life from the minute the event started.
Then it is off to the trails, not necessarily for the off roading but more the comradery of the event. Some years are great wheeling years other years are great socializing years. This was more of a social year as the trails turned into log jams on Saturday.
So on the socializing side the guys from Lucky8 Offroad had set up the Wiener Wagon and a tent for a little hospitality. They were cooking up Bangers and Mash and handing them out for free to people heading out on the trail. Also they had plenty of Winter Romp 2017 stickers and free issues of Outdoorx4 magazine to give out.
They had full converted a Discovery 2 that was no longer fit for the road into a grill.
I spent a couple hours out on the trail, wheeling a bit and recovering a 110 that had snapped a driveshaft and buried itself so badly on friday night that they abandoned it for the evening on the trail.
It was a blast, but I enjoy being outdoors in the snow running winch line. Then it was a long slow ride to get back in due to trails being jammed with trucks. Even got to try recovering a stuck 107 Series Rover with a 355 chevy and 37" with the LR3. In the end though I wasn't willing to beat Lucky8 LR3 hard enough to yank it free. So luckily Justin wondered up the trail and showed me what a rev limiter was for.....
It is an amazing weekend and Saturday night always finds us at Mainly Brews followed by a pub crawl.
Make sure that you have that DD though.
Another great year making new friends and living a bit in the great outdoors
