Hi All,

I just replaced one of my coolant hoses that runs into the bottom of themanifold (click link below forpic). I picked up a 5/16 Good Year rubber heater hose from Auto Zone. It's printed with 50 psi - not sure if it makes any difference when using for coolant hose. When I disconnected the hose (silver tuck tape side), coolant spewed out from the manifold nipple. Nonetheless, I quickly swapped the hoses and made sure all the metal clips were tight. I checked the coolant level and it was good. I just took the truck to run some errands and when I gas it, I can hear this 'SWOOOOSHing' sound behind the radio console area. Only when I gas it I hear the sound. Once I let go of the gas pedal, the sound diminishes.

The new hose is slightly longer...it seems to have a bit more slack compared to the older one. Can this be contributing to the problem? Hose is too long and preventing enough pressure?

I've been checking the coolant indicator in the dashboard and coolant temp is right in the middle. I've also checked for coolant leaks and found none. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your noise is coming from air trapped in the engines cooling system that needs to be bled out.

Thanks for your help today. I greatly appreciate it. The swooshing/gurlgling sound is gone now. By filling the coolant all the way to the top while the radiator bleeding cap was off did the trick. Thanks again.

Ok... 4 hours later and things are not as good as I thought.

After bleeding the system, the swooshing sound was gone and I was as happy as a school boy. I took the truck and drove it around for about 30 mins, then I hearda 'pop' sound. I opened the hood and found my radiator bleed bolt/cap blew off. I looks like a snapped bolt with the remainder of the bolt in the radiator thread body. There isa pen tip size hole there and coolant and spewing out. I quickly wiped the area clean and used some epoxy to seal the hole and glued the snapped/blown off bolt head onto the body. After 5 hours of the epoxy settling, I took the car for a drive and no coolant leak for now, but the swooshing sound is back and twice as loud...so I know more air got into the system.

I have a few questions...

1) how can I get the remainder of the bolt out. The bolt seems to be made of plastic, not sure if a reverse bit will work because it may be too soft.

2) Are there any adverse effects of having air in the coolant system?

3) Are there any radiator bolts I can use? Or are these LR specific?

Well the good thing is I did fix my rear windows by soldering the ECU. At least I was 1 for 2 today http://www.discoweb.org/forums/images/smilies/banghead.gif
