Default GPS lockout

We have grown increasingly in love with our LR3 the longer we have owned and used it! HOWEVER, we have one major built in problem that drives us insane! LR does not let you reprogram the GPS without pulling over and stopping. No other car we know of has this problem. I do not talk on the cell fone while driving, much less use the GPS, HOWEVER, my passenger does both, a lot!
Does anybody have a way to short circuit this lockout??? Can I just tie a couple of wires together to make the car think I am parked? My passenger has taken to hauling along a cheap Garmin because this LR lockout drives her crazy........Thanx!
