Default HK speaker Upgrades

99 RR HSE w/ HK 11 speaker system (if you count the sub as two speakers, it is 12). Wondering if anyone has installed aftermarket speakers hooked up to the stock HK amps? I have a few speakers that crackle and dont really want to run an external aftermarket amplifier for the speakers. Any advise on stock amp ratings or sound quality with some aftermarket speakers???

I have a full HK set from a 2003 with amp and head unit for sale if you're interested. I wouldn't try to run something else off that amp though, I started that way and ended up doing a full teardown and re-wire with all new components.

It was more upgrading the head unit introduced all kinds of noise. The stock system is all carefully impedence matched and shielded and if you start messing with things you get alternator whine, noise etc. It was a big pain, I still need to put in a 100% isolated power supply for the head unit and hideaway to get rid of the last bit and that's after about $6K in upgrades already.

I upgraded my HK system in my disco II. ended up putting in new amp and polk momo component speakers. stock amp did not work well. however, I kept the head unit (I like the weather band, and like the looks of the stock unit in the dash). Also took out he subs in the back gate and put in a powered sub (attached to the gate)... crutchfield is a wonderful thing.
