Me, too. Nice rover. Keep at it, Charlie, and please keep posting. It breathes life into the platform and inspires others... me included. The sliders are NICE. I did violence to my plastic ones a long time ago and without any slider it looks kind of bare. Eg,
I was working on brakes here but it obviously cries for sliders.
What's really neat about your truck is that people who are in the know can tell the you have spent a lot of time and money and thought on it and probably done it all yourself Everyone else thinks "that's neat, I wonder what it is" ... they don't matter. I would follow you on the highway for several miles, wait for you to buy go and ask for a rundown of all of the mods. I've done the more than once on Discos and a couple of really neat defenders.
Honestly, where I live, when I see ANY Disco I always acknowledge the driver and they acknowledge me back just because since they are both running and tagged/inspected. We both MUST have some mechanical skill and love for the platform, not to mention reasonably deep pockets. If you were driving down the road? We'd all turn and follow you home. If someone doesn't acknowledge me here, I assume I'll be buying their Disco in Craigslist for parts in a few months.

Thanks for the kind words! They are becoming a rare breed around here also. I still see them around, but rarely see them modded. I will acknowledge the drivers also. It's a 50/50 chance they will wave back.
It may not make sense to everyone, but I'd rather drive and mod the disco rather than pay a car payment every month. Plus I really don't know if there is anything else I'd rather be driving. Maybe a 110, but that's out of my price range at the moment!

I have a rule: if I keep a car long enough to pay it off, it stays forever! This is partly due to no salt on the roads in Texas and the fact that I drive like an elderly grandmother. My Disco was paid off in '03.
After a few months or years of no car payment, miles per gallon is meaningless and you have alot more money to make additions/mods!
The only defect in the system is INSURANCE. If someone hits you in such an old vehicle, you are just screwed, not matter who was at fault.
You've done a great job with yours, Charlie! Watch out for the crazy drivers!

It is really a lot of fun! Not the fastest car I have owned, but maybe the most fun. Hope to get it on the track more often in 2017.
Today I replaced the foam gym floor tiles in on top of my storage drawers with a rubber "stall mat" from tractor supply. This stuff is 1/2 thick very sturdy and very heavy duty. Much better than the foam tiles.
Before. Foam tiles. This is when they were brand new. They had gotten pretty beat up.
New rubber stall mat cut to fit. The foam tiles were in a few pieces that locked together. I was able to make the rubber mat one single piece. Much better!!
Nice!
