body removal question
hey guys, I'm restoring my 96 D1. I want to remove the body from the chassis but I don't have a lift. Ive removed all 5 doors and the hood as well as the seats and dash to cut down the weight. I have a garage and I can hoist from the ceiling. I was wondering if anybody has done something like this before or am I biting off more than I can chew. Thanks

The shiny stuff is bearing material. Bearing material is much softer than the metal it supports and its fit is determined down to a very very fine tolerance. When everything is running smoothly, the bearing is constantly bathed in high pressure oil which kind of "pushes" the harder metal surfaces away just slightly so there is very little "metal to metal" contact. When the engine is starved of oil or it over heats the metal to metal contact greatly increases. The soft metal material of the bearing fragments away increasing the gaps between the hardened metals. Oils escape, oil pressure drops away and even more damage is done.
