Default DEFENDER 2003 TD5 (problem)

Hi There,

I am new to this site, so i'm not sure if i'm in the right section to ask about a defender td5 problem, any way here goes.

I have a landrover defender 2003 td5 that is difficult to start. Problem is, sometimes when i switch on the ignition, the engine block light and the heater light fail to appear on the dash. When this happens, the defender fails to start. This only happens occasionally. My mechanic diagnosed alarm and immobilizer problem and he switched off both. Problem still persists, any ideas folk? Thanks.

I'm giving you a bump and also letting you know this site is lacking on the Defender owners so that's most likely why there is a lack in responses to your issue. I'm sure everyone that reads the title of your post is very jealous that you are lucky enough to have a diesel Defender to be having trouble with...

Good luck with your fix, hopefully someone with some knowlegde will help steer you in the right direction.

I will admit that I am just guessing. The diesel truck we had only ever had two issues. Glow plug and dried out O-Rings on fuel injection. May also check ignition switch.

Cheers and good luck.

I don't know the TD5 but I have a 300TDI in my 110. There is a relay in the 300TDI that controls the glow plug and power to the starter, I would suspect that relay if the TD5 is the similar.
