Default light switch replacement

Hello,i am trying to replace my headlight switch and it appears that the steering column goes through the centre of it.How do i dismantle the steering column?i have a 1998 defender 110 tank you

Hidav1sutcliffe.
Are you refering to the headlight switch or the dip switch?To replace the dip switch,you have to remove the steering wheel.The headlight switch has a nut under the rubber that holds it onto the bracket.
