Default plug under drivers seat, what purpose?

my ignorance may get me tossed from this forum. What is the plug for that sticks out from under the drivers seat?

A photo probably would have gotten you an answer, or shock market it is from or mentioning that it is a v8 and not a 300tdi. It is probably an odb diagnostic plug.

someone recently told me it is a trickle charge for the battery. simply pull the red plug to disconect batter power then plug in the trickle charger. anyone have experience with it?

an early model (pre 96) cant be OBD it is abs for the "sack" a diagnostic tool. The beneath the seat position leads me to believe ABS becuase OBD has to be (pre 1996) in easy reach of driver. The OBD II has to be positioned beneath dash on drivers side (federal mandate) scott
