Default Retro fit steering to power

Hey Guys,

Need a bit of advice. I have a 1986 110 with manual steering. The steering box is bad as well as the control arm connecting it to the front linkage. I went to my local LR repair shop and they tell me they can't get replacement parts. But, they do have instock all the items needed to retro fit mine with power steering. While this would be a welcome addition to the truck the price tag seems a bit high to me. The only new part would be the steering box coming in at around $650. dollars US. With all the rest being used. Total cost for retro fit will be $1000. US. Does this sound like a reasonable amount? Could I find a steering boxand control arm in the UK? What do you think the price would be to purchase and ship to Albania? If anyone can put me in the right direction. By the way the truck is left hand drive. Thanks in advance for all the help.

David

Easiest way to price that lot from the UK would be to use Paddocks web site - might even get a shipping cost then too. You'll need the pump, a crank pulley which can drive two belts (early ones have only one I believe) as well as the steering box and drop arm. Everything else you should already have (drag link etc shouldn't need changing) fitted to your car for the non-PAS system.

Thanks for the input. It seems that it was a good deal after I priced everything out. Parking is now so much easier with power steering
