Default D1 won't go into Park

Is this the same issue as not coming OUT OF park? And it's the brake switch?

I can hear the brake switch click at the shifter, and I am pretty sure my brake lights come on, but most of the time I can't get into Park reliably.

Lubricated the shifter linkage cable, which smoothed the shifter nicely but did not solve the issue.

So is this that little brake switch under the dash on driver side?

This should not be the brake light switch. Most likely there's a penny or Jolly Rancher stuck in the shifter track.

blurg. I don't even LIKE Jolly Ranchers.

How do I get the track exposed? I can get the bezel off but no further than that.

just happened to see a video on that, the guy went under the truck and on drivers side of tranny you'll see linkage, take out cotter pin pop the washer and pull cable out then turn to loosen or tighten with someone putting truck thru all gears then replace washer and cotter pin, looked pretty easy,he popped it in and out to test, hope that helps, and no it doesn't sound like brake pedal switch, you know when that part goes!!and it is absolutely possible you have something lodged in there!!

Did mine a couple years and if I remember right I had to pull the whole center console out to replace my shifter assembly. Have fun with that. The handle on the shift lever alone requires some firm commitment to remove. It's a blast.... ;-(

Re-aligning the shifter is not that hard from under the truck as you said remove the cotter pin and remove the linkage from the shifter bar and adjust the nut as needed a few tries will need to be done but make sure that the cable sheath is clamped tight before adjusting it, it is a few inches back it goes into a block that clamps the sheath in place so it doesn't move. If the block is loose you will loose your shifter alignment and will need to adjust it again.

Could this be one of those situations where the top of the shift **** needs to be popped off and the little nut inside needs to be adjusted so that the button on the 'thumb side' retracts the lock out?

The thumb button was working and you could hear the interlock clicking, it just wouldn't push into Park.

We got the center console off but could NOT for the life of us get the shifter **** off. But something fixed it. I drove around all day with a half-open center console and could not replicate the error, so back together it all goes and I hope it doesn't happen again. I sprayed a ton of lube into the shifter box and linkage as best I could. All systems go for now.

So that Jolly Rancher dime must have dislodged, or it was a misalignment of the wedge in the shifter ****. At any rate, all's good for now. KNOCK WOOD.

LOL I warned ya. That dang thing seems to defy the laws of physics. If you ever do need to get it off in the future for the love of God position yourself so that when it does come off you don't literally throw yourself out the door or through the windshield. It takes Herculean strength.
Happy you got it fixed regardless how you got there. It's the results that count.
