Default 96 disco 1 O2 sensor wiring

Does anyone know which wire colors are the signal, ground and heater. Mine has a red, black, yellow and white wires from the plug. I bought some universal O2 sensors that have different colors. Thanks

Return the universal O2's you bought and go to Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more and buy the correct ones.
About $100 shipped.
The universals will not wortk right and your truck will either run like crap or your MPG will still suffer.
If all you have is a check engine light with a O2 code then do a complete tune up, that means new spark plugs and good spark plug wires, 95% of O2 codes is because of a bad tune up.
Kingsbourne, STI or Magnecore plug wires or you will have problems.

Default 96 discovery 1 sensor wiring

Spike555, Thanks for the advise. I am ahead of you. I am shipping the universals back and ordering the ones with the plug. I can get some NTK sensors for the rover from "Discount O2 Sensor"for $55 each (they are having a sale). I bought the rover used but it looks like there are new STI plug wires. I will replace the plugs then clear the codes and see what comes up. Do you know a way to clear the codes without having my mechanic do it? I live out of town and it would be nice not having to bother him with the small stuff. Thanks again,Kevin

Yes, buy a OBDII scanner, you can get one for cheap, under $30 that will read and clear the codes, or you can go way better and get a UltraGauge Automotive Information Center and OBDII Scan Tool, I have one and I LOVE IT!!
It not only reads live data it also reads and clears the check engine light.

The o2 sensors for '96 show up as "with advanced evaporative loss system" or "without advanced evaporative loss system- w/o AELS" The sensors for "W/O AELS" are the more expensive. The $55 sensors are for "with AELS". Make sure which one you need. I have a '96 and my truck took the more expensive sensors. By the way, the Bosch sensors were NTK sensors in Bosch packaging. I just did this last week, thought I would give you a heads up.

You can check via your VIN number, or just look - if you sensors have grey plugs you are lucky (I guess) and have AELS, if they are black, you don't have AELS and must buy the more expensive sensors. Most of the '96 years do not have AELS, unfortunately.

Default Thanks

Thanks everyone for your advise and knowledge. I'll get a code reader now that I have 3 newer vehicles. Mine takes the ones with AELS the parts house crossed with the Vin.
