Default Alternator suggestion

All right, I will be installing my 5th Autozone alternator tomorrow in less than 6 months. Seems the bearings they are using aren't sufficient for the task at hand. I am now looking for a supplier who sells rebuilt Land Rover genuine alternators as I used mine as a core.

Haha
I had that problem with a Pontiac I once owned!
I had a "volt pump" failure nearby an Auto Zone store--so I changed it out on the road side. Then my five time experience started like yours!

I would suggest you call a Car Quest/Napa for a quality re-man.
Expect to pay about $300 for a good unit.
You can get a genuine one through Car Quest in their Worldpack line.

Avoid Autozone and even Advance in their Tuffy line, they do no go the distance. Classic Range Rover 90 amp Marelli are similarly affected, so don't be tempted to go there if you have on of these as well!

Unfortunately free replacement of a turd does not stop it from being a turd, I wonder how many times you replace it before they will get you a better brand or refund

I scavanged parts from a Bosch marked rebuilt and added them to another, so far so good, Bosch was smashed a little from accident

I had that trouble one time. After the second turd I bought a Bosch rebuild and never a problem again.

The District Manager told me I could return it for a refund as he knows this one will crap out too, but then I have nothing to replace it with yet. Going to run this replacement till I get something.

You know, I never thought about Mean Green as an option. I had one on my Ramcharger & loved it. I did check & see they have one that is supposedly compatible with 81-99 defenders & discos for $349.00 Did you have to do any modifications to get it to mount up on your D2?

I toyed with getting something with 120-160 amps for the extra lights I have, but was worried about how the integrity of the wiring.
