Default Starting issue, please help

Recently had my 99 disco break down. Replaced the fuel pump and it was working again. At first, if I started it too many times in the day, it wouldn't start anymore. It got worse and now I can only start it one time before having to wait some hours before it stars again. Recently had a new starter put in also. It also has new spark plugs.

I don't know what's wrong. It has 140k miles on it. I hope that I can fix it somehow, because I would hate selling it. Gonna have to drive a Dakota while it's not working.

Do you mean it won't crank or engine won't run?

Probably the motor won't fire. Check engine light on, any codes? To me it sounds like something is overheating and wigs out until cool again like a sensor.....

Are you sure the starter is good? Did you replace with a used starter?

I had the exact same problem, replaced with a spare starter and all is good.

It cranks, and sounds ok while starting, but the engine won't catch and turn on.

Check engine light isn't on and I haven't checked for any codes.

The starter was purchased new so it should still be good.

It does seem to be unusually warm after driving but my temperature gauge hasn't really gone up and I have coolant. Seems like it could be a heating up issue because it ends up working after a good while

My gauge stays right in the middle at temps of 175-230 ish.
It won't budge until it's too late.

You need to buy an ultra gauge or similar item to know the real temp. You can check their website.

Kept checking the problem, it is definitely overheating. Got the codes checked and they told me it could be my thermostat. I replaced it and refilled the coolant, but it went low on me twice. Not sure how to get it to flow through the engine without driving. I drove home today and it was full, but it was still overheated.

Any ideas why it could be overheating?

I bought thermostat the same size as the one originally in there. Just a visual comparison looked pretty much the same size.
The thermostat I bought opens at 71 degrees Celsius I think,
Is this the right temp?
Does anyone know the exact replacement thermostat i should buy for it?

(They only sell the thermostat assembly at auto parts stores, which does not even fit
Disco 1's!!)
