Default Generic ignition

Is there a way to adjust the ignition to accept any D1 key? Remove tumblers or something?
My doors and ignition are keyed differently. One key opens my doors, another starts the truck. I'm guessing at some point the PO(my brother) had the ignition replaced. I'd like to just have one key and changing the ignition seems easier than changing all the doors.

yeah, sure. You could remove all the tumblers and you could start it with a screwdriver if you like. Only problem might be the key falling out while in motion. That didn't work out so well for GM.

Well, I wasn't looking to go that extreme. Can I play with or adjust the tumblers to accept the door key but not have it so sloppy that it falls out?

Take the ignition switch out, put the key you want to use in it.
At this point I took the switch with the key in it over to a small bench grinder and ground off the brass tumblers that where sticking out. Then used a file to clean it up.
You don't want to remove any material off the switch body.

Greetings Mr Fish!
If the spirit moves you would you please be so inclined to do a photo tutorial of this process for us new kids on the block. Currently I have a colored dot on one key to quickly recognize whats what. I want to rid myself of the double key setup too.

I shall try. I'm really bad with stopping to take pics, though. I'm usually moving through projects pretty quickly(#ruthlessefficiency) and have dirty hands, so I usually forget to stop and document. :/

You could have a hardware store cut door key one one side and ignition key on the other side of the blade. Then you just need to mark up and down so you known which is which.

I understand Mr. Fish, all the visually limited people like me would see this as epic! You would have helped many while helping yourself. Totally bringing forth that Zen vibe from within. Your on the precipice of something great, and you can unlock this this situation!

Was that too much
