Update for 2/11/2016
So tested it again and nothing from the pump, the wires made that little sound when you touch power to the battery, but past that nothing. Thanks for that info on the right way to test with 12v . Now plan is to pull the pump from my 96 SD 4.0L and test it in the 95 v8i to see if I can get it to fire up. Will keep y'all posted

Update 3/4/2016 also any advice
Hello sorry for the gap in posts but was waiting for a new fuel pump to get here and really couldn't do much else in the meantime :P. So after putting in the new fuel pump and a new battery (cause our backup battery finally died after 8 years lol) tried to fire it up but nothing. Went back through and checked the plug wires on distributor and then changed them as they were wrong. Take two turned er over and boom fired up and ran a little rough and kept dying at first. From the way it was acting thought well hasn't been run in ages so maybe that's it.
Took on a little test drive, bout a half mile after letting it get to normal temperature on the temp gauge. Ran rough and was smoking like a champ. So turned round and headed back.
Issues are as follows. Seems to be lacking the power it should have, running rough and slightly loud(not sure if noisy valves or exhaust leak or both), and blowing smoke like a champ the more pedal you give it. Also the smoke to me reminds me of my old chevy when it was burning oil like a bastard lol. Anyway gonna do a compression test on Monday or Tuesday and will let ya know the results of that, but if anyone has any other ideas(Past possible bad rings, etc that would mean lack of compression) would love to hear em.
Thanks in advance and sorry for the length just wanted to get everything in there.

Not sure if anyone is still checking this, but here goes. So went out today and tinkered a little. Cleaned the MAF and decided to give it a go. Well it seemed to run a little better but still smoking badly. The smoke is almost a whiteish grey, but aside from that it threw a code 12. I looked this up and it's a airflow meter error code, but does this mean my MAF is bad? Thanks for reading and help in advance

FYI, bluish white smoke is typically oil. Light white smoke is typically coolant.

Ahh damn was thinking it was a possibility, but hoping not. Also max running past test drive was no more than 2-3 minutes to see if it overheated like the guy that sold it to me said. Which it never did. Well was going to do a compression test next anyway. And least from having to do the gasket on my 96 4.0 I know how to do it so shouldn't take as long.
At least the oil looks clean and not muddy so I think am really lucky there, hopefully lol. Would rather get er running and have 2 runners, than have a runner and a parts rig :P

Sorry for the length between posts, things have been hectic.. well today checked the plugs that were in the 95 and boy were they what I consider to be nasty. Black soot all over them, so changed em out, did a compression test and everything tested between 125psi-170psi. Which I read is about normal. Cleared the code 12 it was throwing and boom has most of the power it should, but still a little stuttery..that and the smoke is still there, but its weird cause its more a bluish tint. Not sure what is exactly wrong cause ran it for a good 20 min and no codes (at idle) anyway gonna look into things more next week, any suggestions would be appreciated
