Do you remember the efforts I initiated a while back requesting that AB give us forum members a group discount based on being a member of this forum ( I was attempting to harness our group numbers and combined purchasing power as LR owners).
A few people understood what I was saying and supported the effort. Several more criticized me, said I didn't understand business, hated AB, was crazy or whatever.
Today, AB posted both on here in the Special section and on FACEBOOK about a new joint discount BlockBuy: Group Buy Savings from Atlantic British
BlockBuy: Group Buy Savings from Atlantic British
Several months ago we were asked by members of a Land Rover enthusiast forum why Atlantic British had never offered group buy discount promotions. After giving it some thought, we really could not find a reason why we shouldn’t give Rover enthusiasts a chance to join together and earn exclusive discounts.... Danny Lee Bridges I believe that the "enthusiast" that made that suggestion looks a lot like ME. And he has a Land Rover Discovery, just like MINE. Could it possibly be? WOW, glad to see that something finally came out of all that. 4 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 1

They should have watched them sooner! This is their second effort, the first thing they came up with was if you posted a pic of your rig on their FB page and they drew your name from all the submittals, they would give up a 25 Dollar Gift Certificate.
Now several months later they decide that if 10 people buy the same item, you will get a 10 % discount, the more people that participate the higher the discount 15 people = 15 %.
If we get 50 people do you think they will sell us something 50 % off?
Hell let's get 100 people and get something FREE.
And it only took about a year for them to come up with this. Let's see how it goes.
It was most likely the girl with the Ukelele singing my favorite Jimmy Buffet song that had the most influence on them.

Not sure why anyone would bash the idea, its a widespread practice among specialty automotive suppliers. The Volvo sites offer us nerds group buys all the time and we get killer deals. Sure the overall profit percentage is less, but the instant bump is nice and you're guaranteed to sell x number of items at once. 20 of us may commit to buy 20 items that may otherwise sit on the shelf for years. Anyway are they going to offer specific items throughout the year or do the masses dictate which items they wish to enter into a group buy with?

VW suppliers have been doing this with VWVortex fore more than a decade. I tricked out a 2001 GTI almost exclusively with group buys when it was new, saved thousands.
For the advantage of you newer members that were not around when I initiated this effort in April of 2011, here is a link to the original thread: AB Request for Group Discount
It was a bit of a battle with lots of commentary. I was merely attempting to harness our collective purchasing power and utilize some of my background and training in dealing with suppliers to save all of us some money.
As some of you have stated, it can be a win/win relationship both for the supplier to help boost his sales with very little efffort and get a better price for members of any group. Not like I was asking for the impossible.
I do not know the total details of their plan. I just saw it announced on FaceBook and on here within the last two days. I am in no way affilaited with them other than an occasional purchase from them.
I do think it is both funny and sad that it took them so long to come up with a good response, but at least it did result in something. So I guess it is time to put them to the test and see how it works out. If any of you do, please keep the rest of us posted on the results.
One other comment, I notice that the ones that were most vocal against me, no longer seem to be participating in our forum. Has anybody heard from Brandon II down in florida lately?

Glad to see they at least stepped up even if it took a while. Given there are not many Rover enthusiasts out there (compared to other vehicles) and there are plenty of companies selling parts for them, it makes sense from a business point of view to set yourself apart from the rest. Customers control the market, keep them happy and they will keep you paid, piss them off and you'll lose your behind, especially in such a niche market. We'll see how it pans out but these sorts of things typically go in favor of business and consumer.
