Default Installing D1 Kickdown Cable in Transmission

What quick steps can I take to install the kickdown cable in the transmission while it is on the car, 96 D1. Does this require dropping the pan and draining the fluid? Access from the side is limited.

Yes it means dropping the pan!
You can fiddle it into the case and around the quadrant with the pan sat on the cross-member.
Start at the transmission end and fit it last at the throttle linkage.
Have a cuss box on hand --you will need it!
Best of fiddling.

Other than the cable breaking, why else would it need to be replaced??? My '97 sshift points are funky. I keep playing with cable
