Default keyless entry

I bought my 1996 disco in august 2011,it came with two keys and no transponder or whatever you call them.My question I have the oppotunity to get one off a wrecked 1998 model disco can it be retuned to work on my 1996 model?

If your '96 has a 2 button remote then yes it can be programmed to work, if you have a 1 button remote then no, it cant be.

I assume he/she has two generic keys, and no fob/remote. Given I lack knowledge on the D1s security system, consider this post just a bump

96+ D1 SHOULD be two buttons. The 94-95 should be the one buttons... but nothing is every written in stone.

I also have this problem and have wondered if the D2 or later FOB might work. I'm not sure how universal they are.

I'm guessing only a dealer can pair them, or an independent shop with Testbook, T4, Faultmate, etc ?
