Default Keyless fob options?

Searching here and on google only made me more confused.

I've been chipping away at the electrical gremlins (of which there are surprisingly few) and scored a major win last night by gaining my SRS, horn, turn signals, and heated seats back.

I'd really love to have keyless entry again. This rig didn't come with a fob...

Like I said, the internet only made me more confused. Some sources make it sound like a simple process, others say it's not possible. Some list specific P/N's to get off eBay.

I'm servicing my drivers door lock and actuator later, and would be a happy camper to never actually have to use it!

Buy a fob online and take it to the dealership to have it linked up. It's the only way for a 98.

Tom,

Would the same advice be for a 1995 Discovery 1?

If one bought a two-remote set via the internet and with NO dealer or "Hawkeye" or "Techpro" in my neck of the woods, how would one go about programming the remotes? In fact, what is "Hawkeye" and "Tekpro"?

the single button factory remotes pre 96 you can do , 96-99 d1 factory 2 button has to be done with a scanner, takes longer to setup the scanner then program the remotes, all remotes must be present at time of programming

Would that be the Portland LR dealer? Good to know that's the price, luckily I'm less than a mile from there.

I've read elsewhere that all textbook does is put the CLS into programming mode, but the actual pairing process is pretty much the same as the 1 button. It's too bad there's not an easy way to spoof the system (or maybe it's a good thing! haha).

Does anyone know how the CLS actually works? For my diesel swap I'm worried by disconnecting the ECU I'll loose my alarm and keyless entry - or is that a different module that just immobilizes the ECU?
