Default Unknown cluster wire....missing a home...

During my cluster/dash "no" light issue investigation, I tumbled on a wire (yellow) missing a home...

Does anyone recognize where this one should belong? It was taped to the top of the cluster....

If not, I will be looking through the RAVE again.

**Also, will a bad dimmer switch cause this no light issue???**

not sure on the yellow wire but YES a bad dimmer switch (rheostat) will cause a no light condition.

Does the yellow wire have a trace color on it or is it a solid yellow?

1. one all yellow wire I could find is part of connector C209 (20-R) pin position 18

Component location view section Z5 page 39... image 153

2. the other is at connector C149 (3 - B) but this connector is for the TPS.

component location Secrion Z6 ... image 21

3. Could also be part of C2062 which is a Saudi Spec connection from the MFU to the instruments display???..... section Z5 view 130

***Final Edit***

4. And I think this may be the one... back to possibility #1 It is a "not used" wire as part of the NAS Theft Alarm Unit, coming from the unit to the antenna then back out of the antenna to connector 209 at pin pos 18 the yellow wire comes out of 209 and just terminates... has no use. Check it out in section T2 on page 6.

Good luck with the rest... let us know what you find.

Land Rover uses the yellow wires for signal usually to the ECU. However, there are two plugs that connect the ECU to the interior. They are located under the hood near the ECU. One is a blue connector and the other black. Both have yellow combination wires going to the ECU. Does this yellow wire have a stripe?

There are actually three connectors there. C1017 1032 and 1033

I omitted that particular yellow wire since it leads from 1017 (pin 18) directly to the right knock sensor X296 via Z265 terminating at C1023 pin #2. this wire runs no where near the instrument cluster where the wire in question is located.

I actually tested this wire for any output with my meter, voltage wise, no output....should have check if there is any ohm measurement....

There is one yellow/pink wire that goes to the instrument cluster (right) connection, and one yellow/pink wire that goes to the AMR 6428 (green box) receiver. Also a large gage solid yellow wire to the interior main fuse panel. But I'm sure it is the one to the cluster connector mounted on the right side as your looking at the gauges.

Cosmo, How does one determine which connector is wnich from the connector numbers? Are they marked anywhere? I hate the Rave electrical documentation. I am not accustomed to the fragmented way they do things.

I had a problem where my dash lights and taillights functioned in the parking light position, but were dead in the headlight on position. That turned out to be the blinker stalk switch. The dimmer also tends to break off the mounting post behind the binnacle. It will kill the dash lights as well if it shorts out or comes loose.
