discos are more available in my area right now. decent trucks from 1900-5500, year from 1992-2002 milages from 84xxx - 180xxx dunno which Disco to grab please enlighten me . i hate my jeep i replaced my RRC with !
D1 are cheaper, have CDL, no TC, easy to find parts at bone yards.
D2 early modles have CDl but I think they stopped in 03 (I'm not 100% sure), but they do have TC.

A D1 is going to be just like your RRC. CDL and no TC. All D2's will have TC, only some will have CDL. D2's lift better, D1's have less stuff to go wrong.
i'm of the belife of less is more. looks like year wise mainly d1's are available. i dont see why not a d1.
can any one explain the trim to me se sd ? or what they happen to be. what model wont have a sun roof? its not a needed option, also any have a tow package that's worth having or?
how about tire size for stock gearing? i was on 32's was ok on my rrc. could i get away with a 34? and lift? want to do this proper.
SD was cloth seats and sunroofs were optional. SE was 'pleather' and had two sunroofs. The sunroofs can be problematic and unless you are buying a real 'cherry' it is probably less hassle to find a truck without the sunroofs.
All the trucks have a tow hitch receiver.
There is a sticky at the top of this section about what to look for in D1's. The biggest mechanical issues are fuel pump failure and head gasket failure. Though there are plenty more to occupy your time.

I'm not 100% certain, but the trim options may have improved in the latter half of D1 production. For example, I have a 97 SD with leather seats. I do not have sunroofs, nor do I have fog lights, as much wood trim, or heated seats that I believe the fancier models had. Seems to me like 95 and earlier had cloth on bases models, where 96 and later switched to standard leather. It could also be that the original owner of my SD added the leather as an option, I dunno.
An SE7 is going to have the child-sized jump seats in the back unless the PO removed them. Keep in mind that all D1s have the mounting brackets for the jump seats, so you can (like I did) install them later with minimal effort.
There is also an LSE model I have seen which (I think) has chrome bumpers or chrome adornments of some sort. Personally I don't care for that look, but that wouldn't stop me from buying one if it was a solid truck.

IMHO the D1 cooling system is superior, even though they use the same water pump. Big copper and brass radiator, more rows that the D2. Oil cooler, not always on a D2. More options for cooling fans, and thermostat is built for a Buick, not a heart transplant. You can run any temp you want (160, 180, 195) vs one choice for a D2. When you are moving slow in low range, working the engine, that cooling fan and jumbo radiator play a bigger part that hauling groceries back from the store.
