Default MAF clean fixed cold hesitation (I think)

Just FYI in case anyone else has issues with cold acceleration hesitation or rough idle, bad gas mileage, etc.

For about 3-4 weeks it has been pretty chilly up here in the Seattle area. With the cold, my Disco has been hesitating on first acceleration when cold. After a mile or so of driving, the hesitation subsided. Another symptom I have had for some time is a tendency to (intermittently) idle rough coming to a stop when warm.

After doing a little research here and on the Google, it occurred to me that it could be a dirty MAF. And then I realized that it was one of the few components I haven't cleaned in the 7 years I have owned her. *waits for the slaps across the face*

I bought a can of MAF cleaner and soaked the crap out it mine and let it dry out for a while.

The next morning (today) and this evening after work it fired up quicker than normal, idled fine upon stopping, and did NOT hesitate at all on first cold acceleration.

Soooo...I am cautiously optimistic that cleaning the MAF (which was quite filthy) was the solution.

Given the Rover has probably been running a little rich for a while, I am also planning on pulling and cleaning the plugs this weekend.

How about springing for new plugs for the main battle tank?

Considering it, but I replaced them (with Bosch Platinums) ~ 20K miles ago. Of course, that was 6 years ago.

Too soon?

I have done some backcountry driving in the Cascades and some camping trips around the region, but mostly I drive short distances to and from the ferry terminal during the week.

I didn't until now. The can of MAF cleaner recommends cleaning it at each air filter change.

Rover is running GREAT now, btw.

Is there a recommended MAF cleaner? I know anything that's not specifically made for it is verboten.
