Mirror question
I have a 96 sd and the rear view mirror has leaked out the fluid. I have a 2000mirror of a D2 and would like to use it. But the connector dose not match up. The d2 has a connector with 3 wires: black, light green w/white stripe, and dark green w/ brown stripe. Is there a way to match up those wires with the ones in the D1?

I put the D2 mirror on my D1 and it added the compass and the homelink buttons (which I don't use) I played with it before putting it in to see what wires did what.
Went out and looked, here is what worked for me.
D1 Mirror
Grey Green/Brown
Black Black
White Green/White
Hopefully you got the connector (both ends) to make it easier, and the plastic that goes around the mount to cover up the wires.

Any chance a photo of a mated wiring job could be added for guidance?
I ask because my D1 has 1/grey - 2/white - 3/black & the D2 mirror has 3 wires colors: 1/grey - 2/red - 3brown.
How should these mate up; what color to what color?
I'm taking a chance this thread will pop up again with some new info.
It's a nice simple upgrade when your old mirror leaks out (if the wiring can work).
Any helpful new information out there?
Thanks for the time.

I spent a fair amount of time researching the wiring for a D2 rear view mirror into a D1 before jumping into it. I'm not sure I ever ran across the specific wiring solution that was correct for my case so I'll post it here in case it helps a future enthusiast. D1 ('97 LSE) has black/white/gray wires. D2 mirror has brown, red, gray. (this is a compass only mirror)
What I did: D1 black to mirror brown (ground). D1 white (12v power) to mirror red. D1 gray to mirror gray.
I put the multimeter on the D1 wires and the black was clearly ground. The white was switched 12v with ignition. I couldn't get a reading on the gray with the key on or off. Not sure what that was about, or if the dimming feature works. I'll not care too much if not as it's just not that big a deal for me with how I use the truck. But gray to gray seemed like a no-brainer....
As other posts mention, just pull straight down on the mirror following the windshield contour to remove it. I spliced the wires there and didn't mess with any of the overhead stuff bec it looked like it would involve removing the visors and all that jazz. Installation is the reverse of removal. Easy peasy.
