I bought a parts D1 before for $400.
Cut the cats out and sell them to a local catalytic converter recycler or Marty Powell (Drillbit).
Save the diffs and axle shafts and wheels along with as much of the engine and interior as you can/want.
Between selling the cats and scrapping the well picked over carcus to a local junkyard I was able to break even. Plus I had tons of spares. Sensors, bulbs, lamps, mirrors, switches, and on and on.

I bought my parts truck RRC for 800 bucks. Got it running. Cleaned up. No one bought it whole. Between ebay and craigslist I sold 2300 worth of parts. Plus kept a ton for myself. Then when I sold my RRC I sold off the spares I kept for another 400. Then I used the steering box/steering arm for the new Disco that had a puking box. Then pulled it's transmission for yet another disco. Plus I used it to replace a bent trailing arm too. Then gave the carcass away.
If you have the room I highly recommend having a parts truck.
