Default Rubber window weatherstrip replacement

I'd like to have the back two rubber window seals replaced, the famous cracking of the corners. I see that they can be bought for around $60 but what I am being quoted over $500 for labor..which is absurd. Anyone know how long it should take to replace the seals and what a fair price would be? Can a auto glass shop do this or is there something special about replacing them that I am not aware of. Thanks.

I've heard it is a pain, but with a piece of string, some dish soap, and a second set of hands it can be done. Auto glass shop should be able to do it.

So what did you do to your Disco today? - Page 368 - Land Rover Forums - Land Rover Enthusiast Forum

Removing the old seal and glass is easy. Putting it back is a pain in the a**. I just redid mine a few months ago and I will never do it again. A spray bottle of water and a rope is all you need to put them in. Like waltnyc said you need a second person to push/ pull the glass in to place as you pull the rope. I would gladly pay someone $500 to do the job next time. The rear door seal is the easy one.

I usually get my parts from roverparts(dot)com. I replaced my rear door window seal about a year ago.

For what its worth, I just patched a few rear window seal cracks with Permatex black silicone sealant.

$6, done.

If you are careful you can get it pretty smooth and hard to even notice.

This is a good option. I've done it to a couple trucks and it works well.

That's nuts. Myself and my land rover buddy/mechanic did it in about a half hour including removing the old one.
I would seek out someone either familiar with land rovers or a glass specialist. $500 is nuts. I've bought trucks for less than that!!!!

I agree that spending $500 is ridiculous for replacing the seals. My wife and I did ours this summer in a couple hours. Our first time doing it and my wife is not mechanically inclined.

What's your secret for the rear door window seal? I did the rear side windows no problem, but am having a heck of a time with the cargo door window. The seal channel is shallower, so the string keeps falling out, and the seal won't stay on to the curve in the middle of the bottom of the window, and it's hard to line up right. Any tips would be much appreciated.
