Special Tools
#2
I cannot speak to the '97.
I have a '96 and the only "special' wrenches or tools that I have needed has been the socket for the head bolts. I have also heard need for a specialized tool for bearings. Other than that - our vehicles were designed to be able to be worked on in the most remote places with limited tools...
Not that Maine is THAT remote...;-)
Send down some lobsters and I will happily send up the sockets and bearing tools!

There is an adapter for the lock nuts that secure the wheel bearings. It's like a
2 1/16? deep socket made from a flared piece of pipe with a hole thru the top to turn it. R/N, AB, and Rovah Farms all have it for under 20 bucks. AB currently has thiers on sale in their monthly circular. There are a few others listed in the RAVE, but you can get by with various workarounds in most cases.
Cheers,

But with all the rust and crap that was on top of it - a flat head screwdriver and hammer was really the most effective...

Are you talking about Land Rover special tools? i.e. LR-xxx-xxxx type numbers?
I may have a list if that's what you mean.
FWIW everything can be had locally in another form, except some of the R380 special tools. Maybe some of the ZF tools too, but I doubt you'll be rebuilding one of those.
