Default Steering box output shaft seal replacement

I just tackled this today. Was straight forward getting everything apart.

No issues until I was seating the first of the replacement seals. I cannot get it to seat far enough home.

The second washer is thick and doesn't leave enough space to get the snap ring back in.

If I try and push the seal further in, slightly further around it pushes out. It's like there is an air lock.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Seems like many/most folks go for another box than replace seals. Did you look in the D2 & D1 manual to see if there was any helpful info? You using some sort of seal driver?

Were you able to figure this out? I am going to have to rebuild my steering box soon. I am thinking it would be cheaper to buy a rebuild kit than to buy a new box. On that note, can you recommend a kit?

I should have posted my outcome. I had left a part of the original washer in place and therefore the new washer wouldn't seat.

All back together and no leaks. Well worth doing and quite cheap.

Lucky8 has the cheaper seal kit STC2847 > https://www.lucky8llc.com/products/s...t-pr2-allmakes

For my money I buy CORTECO Seals Only. Spendy but well worth it. L8 might offer this kit as well, but RovahFarm has it (about 7 down) > RovahFarm for all your new Land Rover Parts and Accessories
