I'm in SC where it's not required to have a cat, and on my 96 Ford Bronco I have it straight piped and blown out the sides, I'm wanting to do the same thing with my Rover, but figured I would ask some Rover Pros before doing it.
Thanks in advance.

If you just want it to be obnoxiously loud, go for it. I would wait for the pros to chime in though because some engines do not respond well at all to straight pipes, mufflers do serve more of a purpose than just making things quieter.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, because I know this V8 is alot smaller than the one on my bronco, and the bronco isn't exactly obnoxious loud, well it is very loud, but I think it gives it a nice deep tone to the truck, and makes a head-turner for sure. Thanks for your input.

Eric-How pleased are you with the cat delete? CEL glowing in your face of course?
GRover-with no back pressure you will burn out the exhaust valves and gain zero power, you might even loose power as these engines were tuned with the stock exhaust in mind.
A little better flow wont hurt, but alot more will.
Keep in mind that is your muffler shop will not weld in straight pipe in place of the cats you can remove the y-pipe, take it in and tell them it is for a trail rig you are building.
Then take your old cats to the scrap yard, they fetch about $80 each.
I haven't finished it yet, but I've talked to a lot of people now who say it works just fine. The resulting codes are merely cosmetic as long as the first two sensors stay intact.
