Default 03 Serpentine belt replacement

Hi all, My belt busted yesterday and now Im going to replace it. I have everything fitted already but I dont quite know how to loosen the pulley tensioner in order to tighten the belt. I tried loosening the bolt for the tensioner but it did not work. This is my first time doing this and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am I supposed to pill it down and its spring fed?

How do I tighten the belt Thankyou.

Ok so I just figured it out, really simple.

Now my fan is really loose. Loose enough for every blade to hit a rediator hose and cause the belt to jump off. How would I go about tightening the fan. There is a big nut right behind the fan towards the engine. Would I use that to tighten the entire fan? Reason why Im asking is because I do not have a wrench that big and just want to make sure thats the right one before I go buy the wrench for it.

Thanks

I doubt the nut is loose, sounds like either the water pump or the hub has failed. Wouldn't put a belt on it till you can get that resolved.

Sounds like your water pump bearing went south and that is what caused your belt to fail, belts very rarely just fail, they are caused to fail by something else.
Also go to www.atlanticbritish.com and on the bottom of the page find the "tech tips" and look up belt routing for your truck.

Im assuming its the hub. It kinda looks like is just snapped around the seems of the axle. I would I go about replacing this? What parts would I need and How would I know if its the water pump? When the belt busted the engine was overheating. Prob because of the belt busting or was it a sign of the water pump failing?

I also niticed before all this happened whenever I would start it up, there would be a heavy vibration. Now Im thinking it was the hub that broke. What do yall think?

Yup, you need a new water pump, the shaft is on bearings, they went bad, the pump was loose and that was the vibration that you felt, it got bad enough for the water pump to stop working so you started to overheat and then the belt fell off and got chewed up by the crank shaft pulley.
You need a new water pump.
How mechanical are you?

Unbolt the old water pump, clean the matting surface, install new water pump, done.
