Default 04 Discovery II, Stuck in Differential Lock

My wife ended up off the road in some bad conditions and stuck. She locked the differential and was able to get out. The problem came when she shifted out of differential lock.

The light went off but when she got to about 40mph it was apparent the differential lock was still engaged then the light went back on.

I can get it shifted out of differential lock. I have been reading rave and some post here.

Most of what I am finding here is talking about the pre 2003 transfer case.

I know I am going to have some work finding the issue. In the mean-time is there any way to manually under the vehicle or from the top of getting the lock off so we can drive the car on dry pavement? Any ideas?

Do not drive it on the road till you get this fixed. Send me your number and I'll be glad to walk you thru this.

Mine will take a while to disengage if I'm driving on the street when I unlock it. Push the lever to lock and back to unlock a few times while moving slowly in reverse. That usually does it for me if it doesn't automatically disengage when I slow to a stop.

I spoke with him yesterday and he is either going to remove the shift assembly from the CDL nipple and shift it by hand and if that doesn't work, he will be dropping the drive shaft and go to a shop on his rear shaft.

Mike, I just wanted to let you know how appreciative I am of you replying to this message with the instructions you gave over the phone. I know how busy you are with the four forums you are on, and how many people you talk to each day. I read a post here the other day about someone lamenting about the dead end threads where you talk them through the repair over the phone. I, myself, have had a few issues with my Disco and searched here only to find "let me call youe" as the final post. I had thought about talking to you over the phone, but I honestly didn't want to bother you, and was able (most of the time) to figure it out myself.

This post is in earnest, and not critical in any way, just for the record. I know telling the people you speak with on the phone to report their findings on this board will not result in 100% compliance, but it is very helpful that you have reported your advise.

Again, thank you for reporting your advise for future searches!

Why don't you just remove that thing already?

I still say work it back and forth, while idling in reverse. That works for me, and doesn't require crawling under the truck and disconnecting anything. Sometimes the lever moves fine, but the gears haven't disengaged.
