Default 2000 DISCO II Ticking noise

I have a 2000 Discovery II with only 59,000 miles on it. Regular oil changes from the dealer only as well as scheduled maintenance.
I hear a ticking noise coming from the engine only when I have driven the car for a while and only when the car is in park. Can someone please help me figure out what the problem is????

Are you saying you have only had your oil changed every 7500 miles, if so that is most likely the problem.
Rovers run rich, foul out their oil and build alot of engine sludge which can cause the lifters to plug or the rocker ares to wear out.

I have the oil changed in between trips to the dealer. Do you think the engine is Toast?

No, not at all, most likely time for a good engine flush, clean out some sludg and carbon build up.
Can you do a oil change at home if so I'll walk you thru a few basic steps to make your engine happier.

Either drain the oil, replace it with 6 quarts of ATF, using the old filter, and let it idle with the hood closed and the a/c off, for 30 minutes or quit having the dealer change your oil and start using 1 quart of of Gunk engine flush prior to your oil change and then do the change yourself using 6 quarts of Rotella 15W40 synthetic and a Mobil1-301 oil filter. You should be changing your oil every 3000 to 5000 when using a synthetic and stay away from the dealer.

Oil changes on these things are so ridiculously easy there is no reason to use the dealer, or a quick lube. You don't need jacks, everything is right there, and the oil filter is in a spot where you can get both hands on it and lots of leverage. I've never even needed a filter wrench. I just switched from Rotella T6 to Mobil 1 high mileage. Used to run a factory filter but have a 301 on it now because it came free with the oil. Has been running great and so far the leaks are holding off ;-)
