Default 2001 Discovery $500.00 - Owner said check engine light and oil light came on, now....

I just had a 2001 D2 SD7 (rare bird ?/?) delivered to my home for $500.00 hopefully she can be resurrected...
The owner said it died Just as the engine and oil light came on and now it will not start.
The engine will turn and I can smell fuel at the exhaust end but it won't turn over. (I didn't do this a lot)
Oh yeah - it puked out a lot of oil at the time of the breakdown and it is all over the lower front half of the engine and suspension components.

I will pull off the engine cover to see if the oil pump is shot or if the timing chain is toast.
This is my first time pulling the front off of the engine to view these components.
Does anyone have any tips or similar experiences with this scenario?
Thanks in advance.

Just south of you in Kellogg, ID 83837... I have a 4.6 I'm offing if she's too dead.. Hell... you can have the whole ECU, and tranny too.. with its PCM....

Cheers, mate!

( I have nothing positive to contribute here, other than that)

This is the route I would go whether the 4.0 is shot or not. That 4.6 is a major upgrade in terms of power.

Thanks Gents,
I have a 2004 that is my wife's daily driver and I agree the 4.6 is a beaut, I just want to see if I can get this beast to run again..... I don't want to dump much $ into it and I'll probably part it out. If I can get the motor to run it is still worth more in parts than as a whole unit.
