Default 2003 disco II has p1300 p0303 p0305 p0307 p0135 p0300 p0307 p0130 p0303

Ok everyone,

I bought a Disco II yesterday and it was throwing these codes: p1300 p0303 p0305 p0307 p0135 p0300 p0307 p0130 p0303. I went today and bought new plugs and wires and put thme on and cleared the codes, now it is still throwing the codes. It also seems to have an exhaust leak around the cat I think. I am not sure, I thought it might be a coil pack but as the misfires seem to happen from both coils I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated. I am very good with cars but this is my first Rover, and could really use some insight. I am not sure but perhaps the exhaust leak is causing the O2 sensor codes in sensor 1 bank 1, but again, I am not sure.

Thanks!

Rocky

0135 is open/short circuit on front O2 sensor LH heater circuit- unplugged?

0130 is same sensor - outside of normal signal range

So unplug, clean connector, re-seat connector.

The misfires, could be caused by coils, but you could take a look under the hood in total darkness, looking for arcs. I'm skeered of the dark, so I always carry a zombie bender breaker bar with me just in case.

And then there are always head gasket leaks, usually not so many cylinders, but a warped set of heads can do strange things. Any coolant loss, overheating, white exhaust smoke, coolant in oil, steam cleaned spark plugs?

Yea, the valve cover gaskets seem to have a leak, not much but from what I understand if rovers arent leaking oil, they probably dont have any in the engine. No smoke, overheating, or anything else, just seems to have an exhaust leak on the passenger side, which I am going to have to check, but I bet is where that o2 sensor is located. Could a faulty or bad o2 sensor cause misfires?

O2s are used to calculate fuel mix, but not ignition timing. The reputation of Rover's leaking is well deserved, and taken to extreme by some owners. Always keep a few gallons in stock.

As for overheating, unless you have an OBDII connected scanner you really don't know. The factory gauge is programmed to point at 50% from 130-240F.

Eldonkey, I paid 3600, SE7, great condition. They wanted more but I talked them down because I had no idea what the codes were at the time and it was a gamble. Hopefully it pays off. It has 102k miles. 1200 worth of new tires with warranty and receipt. I have been looking for a clean 03-04 for about a year, and this is one of the cleaner ones I have seen.

I am going to take off and clean o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 tomorrow, would I be correct that the sensor is drivers side precat?

I doubt it is the coils too. It is throwing codes from both coils, that just doesn't make sense, both coil packs going bad at the same time, not likely but anything is possible I guess. The plugs I replaced didnt look bad at all. maybe a little rich if anything, but nothing to indicate a leaking head gasket, radiator and oil are also clean.

Checked in the dark, no sparks anywhere. I'm stumped.
