Aftermarket Stereo
I think it's time to get rid of my tape deck
I have an 01 that has just the standard system...no changer and no Harmon/Kardon. Is there anything I need to know before I swap the head unit out? Does mine have a separate amp?
I have the file folder things to get the deck out. I have a new stereo.
Besides these, is there anything else I need to get?

I don't now what I'm putting in it....A Pioneer of some sort I think it was. Nothing fancy. It has 3.5mm input, a usb input, and you can burn a cd full of mp3's and play it that way. So that's all I need.
Just hoping someone knows what I need to put the stupid thing in. Normally they're pretty easy, but it is a Land Rover so it would stand to reason there will be some oddball issue I'll need know about or some other part I'll need.
The only thing I hate about aftermarkets is that the steering wheel controls no longer work. I've been told if you get a higher end replacement there's way to make it work, but I'm not that motivated to spend all the extra $$

+1 on the Crutchfield DIN kit plus the Metra harness. The DIN Kit is in fact the Metra 89-9400. Be sure to check if you have an OEM system with an amplifier (the Harmon Kardon system) because that fitment requires the 70-1786 Metra harness with RCA connectors. If you have a non-amplifier system you will need the older "VW Type" 70-1784 harness without RCA connectors. The 1784 harness utilizes the amplifier in your DIN and hard wires to the Disco's speakers.
If your vehicle has dual diversity rear side window antennas you will have two antenna plug wires in the dashboard harness, only one of which will fit into the antenna port of your aftermarket head unit. Wrap the unused antenna lead in a piece of soft cloth with a zip so it does not rattle behind the dashboard and stuff it out of the way.
