Default Air filters, educate me please

What kind is best to get for my disco? Should I get a reuseable K&N or a basic paper one? Ithink I saw somewhere that paper were better for older discos?

In my opinion the K&N filters are overrated. I bought one for my 2001 Mitsubishi Montero and it made no difference in MPG or HP.
It was $65 for the filter and then $20? for the "re-charge" kit, you have to wash and then re-oil the K&N air filter every so often. Not worth the money. You can buy 4-5 normal paper filters for the same cost as the first year of a K&N.
K&N air filters are not to bad for DI's but will kill the MAF in a DII.

Stay away from the K&N type of filter, they are for performance engine and do little, except screw up our MAF's, and at $650 you don't need to be buying a new MAF just because you want an extra 1/4 MPG out on the road.
Stay with a factory filter and go wheeling.

The K&N's are a problem for D2's, not so much yours. If you really want to run one, get a cheap MAF from e-bay and run one. I am trying to see what the difference is right now, and I am running one with a spare MAF right now. Been 3 months with no problems. I haven't noticed any HP or MPG gains though.

I would just stick with a paper filter.

That's the thing, why use something that costs 3 times the price of a good factory air filter, may give you as much as a 1/4 MPG, highway only and may kill your MAF??????????????
I don't see the logic in it.

Yea, paper filter it is. I'm not even about to play around with the possibility of screwing something up, not even for 5 mpg lol

Thanks guys
