Machine shop labor + parts? The cost of the top hat sleeves alone is $720 (all 8). If I decide to go this route, I'd have the block pressure tested first and would do the cam bearings as well. All the extra parts cost comes from crank and rod bearings, rings and gaskets. However, before/if I go and pull and disassemble the motor, I want to make sure it's the sleeves.

Hmm... If the rest of the truck wasn't in such good shape, I wouldn't be considering saving the motor. And now, like a dip s$1t, I've already spent enough time and money on it to where I won't let it go...

Yeah...

I think I'm going to pull the motor, disassemble, jet-clean, pressure check - if good (I suspect it will be) - pin the cylinders, new bearings, put it all together and call it good.

Also, as I replaced the cam with the motor in place (pretty easy to do), I f'ed up the AC condenser against the power steering cooler screws (also pretty easy to do). So now, I have to get a replacement condenser and install it to have AC again - meaning I'll be about a third of the way into the work required to pull the motor out...

...and today, not a tick or knock to be heard. Whisper quiet after running for some time. She's killing me!

Personally, I would go for cam, bearings and lifters. I know is crazy not to continue and do the whole thing but if your compression is that good I will take a chance. As mentioned make sure you found more or less where the ticking originate and take from there. 190k miles is extremely good service for any vehicle, never mind this trap boxes that we all love and call them Land Rover Discovery......

Been there, done that... Well, cam and lifters (pushrods too). Unfortunately, I'm like a dog with a bone with this kind of thing - cannot let the car win... Engine is coming out and ( https://landroverforums.com/forum/ge...-sleeve-48770/ ).
