2000 Discovery
Hey all. Im new to the forums. I have a 2000 Discovery Series II fullly loaded with ACE, the 7 seats running boards the works.... Lately its been giving me problems. The pump for the rear suspension has failed, not all the locks work with the button and the main issue is the engine I believe misfires and only 7 cylinders are properly working. It makes a ticking noise and this is what the mechanic said, He says the only way to fix that is to buy a new compressor which is around 600-800 bucks and a NEW ENGINE =0...Anyone ever had these issues...If I really do need a new engine im thinking of just selling the car off...130,000 miles but the body and interior is in immaculate condition always well maintained had the extended warranty for land rover. Its the dark green...Anyone know how much I can get for it with these issues?

Well, let me rephrase that. I had the plugs and wires done. Im assuming he used good ones hes been using Land Rover genuine parts. Not loosing coolant. I actually dont know much specifics on the problem. The engine doesnt have the power it used to. Theres a knocking/ticking noise that sounds louder than a belt noise (its definitely not the belt though). Switching to thicker oil has actually lowered the sound but its still something you can definitely hear.

All I was told was that its a misfiring cylinder. Sorry I dont know much about Land Rover's engine things. I love this thing though its astonishing. I can safely say its saved my life in the conditions Ive been thrown into sometimes.. I would never want to get rid of it but Im at the point now where its like if its not a cheap small fix Id rather sell it to someone who can do the work on their own and enjoy the car as right now its not my primary vehicle and its barely driven.

Just because it is ticking does not mean the engine is toast.
Missing on a single cylinder could be a bad coil, a bad lifter or a sticky valve.
You need a compression test done before you do anything else.
Have your guy do that, and have him give you the exact numbers for each cylinder.
And he needs to write it down like this...cylinder #1 is xxxpsi, #2 is xxxpsi...and so on.
He cant just tell you "yeah, you got one thats lower than the others", we need specifics numbers.
