I went for the genuine Rover pads and I am very pleased. The install went smoothly using AB's DIY video. I would have finished in 5 hours including painting the calipers black if AB had sent me the correct front rotors! They over nighted the correct parts so no real harm. X's 2 on the Impact driver. You'll never get the rotor placement screw off without it.

If you use the correct size bit and a ratchet, you can get the retaining nut off that way. That's how I did mine and never reinstalled it. As for the C clamp, you can also use a large set of channel locks and something to go across both pistons at the same time. Actually, I prefer the channel locks myself.

Default Same set from eBay.

I installed this same set. Exact replacement, start to finish 3 hour job. Brake pads and rotors $207, arrived in three days. Local mechanic wanted $1300 for pads, rotors and shocks, just in rear/ $2100 for all 4. Ordered pads and rotors and then 4 new +2 terrafirma shocks. Total time of install 4.5 hours, $435.
Impact driver a must. Only had to use on one rotor, but glad I had it.

Default Brake Motiv kit installation

I would rate myself a 6-6.5 for mechanical ability and installed the Brake Motiv kit with no problems.

Here are lessons learned:
1. The bolts which hold the brake calipers will be hard to remove, you will need a socket handle which is at least 3/8" and at least a foot long. (The longer the better).

2. The bolts which hold the caliper bracket are the ones which are 3/4". They are actually 3/4" 12 point. (A regular 3/4 socket will not fit). These are the harder to remove. I needed a handle which was 1 1/2 feet long to get more leverage, since I had the vehicle jacked up and only had my arms and feet to use. I assume it will be a different story if I had the vehicle up on a hydraulic lift.

3. I sprayed WD-40 on the bolts before removing.

4. The rotors may also be hard to remove. It took several strikes of a steel ball pin hammer before the rotors started to loosen up.

5. Like everyone posted, an impact driver is a must to remove the rotor locator screw.

6. I was scared as sh*t to replace all 4 wheels so I did the front set first waited a few days and then finished the rears later.

Yes - you do save money! I am comparing this to the $1,000 estimate from my Land Rover dealership. And this was for after market parts. For original parts it was going to be several hundred dollars more.

My parts were $207 for the brake kit. $40 for the impact driver. $8 for the C-clamp. $20 for a long socket handle and 3/4" 12 point socket drive. Total $275.

I second the akebono brake pads. They stop very well, and the absence of Brake dust is astounding.

Also, follow the Rave directions, and take your time. As mentioned previously, if rust did not exist this would be a piece of cake. The impact driver is a necessity. I did not reinstall the brake rotor retaining screw on any of the wheels.
