Default A/C Condenser Fan - Replace w/ Performance Fan?

So, my A/C condenser fan is caput. A pull-off from roverland is $125 -- the cheapest I've seen. They run about $300 new.

Now, you can by a brand new performance electric fan for around $100. It'd take some fab work to mount it up, but I don't think it'd be that big of a deal.

Has anyone tried this? What are the forseeable cons of this project?

On the pro side:

New (more reliable) fan
Cost 1/3 of the price
Better/more airflow

Cutting the connector off the old fan is no big deal, since it's trash anyway.

Thoughts?

What you need to see, is what is the air flow from the aftermarket fan and will it wire up easily?

I have the aftermarket fan airflow but not the CFM from the Land Rover stock fan.

As for wiring, it's just two wires. I would cut the connector off the old fan and connect it to the new one by saudering and heat shrinking the wires. The hook up would be easy.

I guess I should be asking, since my research has not yielded any success, what's the amperage and the CFM on the stock land rover fan?

I read on another forum that the fan from a Toyota will mount up with no mods and you can get one from a bone yard for dirt cheap, and we all know that anything Toyota makes last forever.
If I remember right it was from a Camry.

I haven't gotten the chance to replace it yet and had planned on doing it this Sunday.

The link is a general link. I hadn't heard about the website, and it looks like there's a lot of information there. So thanks.

But I wonder, did you mean to post a direct link to the install?

"I have found that a 1993 Toyota Corolla condenser fan motor fits into disco stock housings and is a direct replacement for condenser fan motors. No modification except you must use disco plug. I replaced both motors this past Sat. This is info I wanted to share with everyone because I found no replys under search. The Corolla fan motor is a denso pancake just as stock and can be found in junkyards. I hope this is helpful.

I did this over a year ago and all is still fine."Sorry, didnt know if the link would work or not. But this is part of that thread. If you go to that site and then search "electric fan" you will find what other guys have done.

Ok, I found a ton of threads, but none of them confirm that it will work on a DII.

Anyone?

Ok, for the record, a Toyota Corolla fan will not fit on a D2.

Luckily, I found a pull of for $40.
