These trucks have their own weaknesses, but they are far from "screwed up". Here's why you hear about so many problems:
- You just bought a 10 year old luxury vehicle for a couple thousand dollars. Use your head: why did it depreciate the much? Because its a maintenance pig.
- They are not Chevys. They require more maintenance if you want them to run well. The part costs are higher, so lack of maintenance get expensive quickly.
- They are not Chevys. You won't find 10 to 20 of your exact model in every junk yard to pick used parts off of.
- They are worth so little now that irresponsible people can afford to buy them and trash them.
- They are worth so little now that someone who otherwise maintained theirs see it as basically disposable, to be dumped on a used car dealer when something goes wrong. This puts them into the auctions, and from the auctions they end up being sold through small maybe not so reputable car lots as well as "private sellers" who aren't really private sellers.
I only modified about 3 words of that explanation from when I used it to explain the exact same question about older Porsches.

I though this was a good read...very true. From the looks of your T-Stat, I would replace all the hoses too...Your due for some maintenance

I would put the thermostat in and run the truck with the overflow tank cap off.
What you're looking for are bubbles not the little ones from movement. If you see big burping bubbles. If the head gasket is going bad it can force gas into the coolant system is maybe the reason you're hose exploded

see my thread. Same thing happened to me:

It could be that the fan took out the hose instead of the other way around.

I think I am going to buy a new fan, thermostat, hoses, and I just saw the return line nipple on the radiator is trashed so I will buy a new radiator. I have done lots of work to it already so hopefully she will run a while after this issue is resolved. I don't mind doing maintenance on it but this problem left me stranded. I appreciate the info and I am aware that this is no Chevy.
