Default Differential lock?

Hola,

Is there some trick that I should know about in order to get the differential lock to work? I can shift from High to Low with no problem but when you try to move the shifter left to lock the diff like the manual says it absolutely will not go. I’ve got a 98 Disco I LE (automatic).

Chris

I did a search before posting. It didn't seem to turn up anything that related to my specific question. I'll go back and look again though.

need to put on overall and get a can of wd 40 and a helper. underneath on the passenger side the transfer case linkage is stuck (frozen) I believe the longer rod (maybe bent too) make sure it clears the bolt beneath it on top of the transfer case then lube away and "help" it with a large prybar while someone in the truck shifts it

Three pages on a search for diff lock ? I read your link, Umm.. A little wishful thinking. Unfortunately, WD-40 can't fix everything.

I find that the gear box can be a little tricky to get in and out. It is usually easy to go directly right or left, but if you are moving it foward or back ( hi -low) it can be tough. What you do is put her in foward then reverse then back to neutral and it should pop in fairly easily. It may take several cycles of doing this to get her and you may even have to drive a few feet fow/rev. Sometimes even though the buzzer is still going off, you are actually somewhat in gear so if you do go rev or foward, make sure parking brake is on or you are not near an obstacle If it was me, I would dedicate 30 min to just putting it in the various gears and locking unlocking diff right now in hopes of loosening it up and to learn the tricks to it so that you can feel confident that you can use it when you really need it. Just do not drive on pavement in locked diff. I do not have a repair manual, but is there any readily accesible lube points for the linkage?
