Default To buy or not to buy 2000 D2

Local ad for a 2000 D2, super clean inside and out, drives very smooth, about 200,000 miles. Asking $2,500

2nd owner, airbags are removed, recent head gasket, don’t know much of the rest of the story, but this is ATTRACTIVE and I’ve been wanting to get into land rovers. Sounds like there is an electrical issue draining the battery, but doesn’t effect drivability and it keeps charge if it runs everyday.

Seems like a no brainer to me, but is there any risk of high mileage? I’d like to keep this humming for decades to come.

Search the forum, there’s lots of good valuable info on here. The head gaskets are one of the bigger jobs, if they were done correctly and you keep up on the maintenance they’re great trucks. I suggest only buying one if your handy and willing to do a lot of the work yourself tho. You can search the battery drain on here. The common drain I believe is the remote entry feed.

Thanks! I can’t wait to get started. I am pretty handy, have always worked on my own cars unless the work is major. Really love these and like the idea of babying a car for the long haul.

Depending on where you are located there really aren't many $1000 running disco's with fresh head gaskets running around... In my corner of the world, $2500 is about as cheap as it gets any more.

In my books 200K tells me someone somewhere cared for it. I avoid any older LR with anything shy of 125K to be honest. Also when we're talking airbags are we talking SLS rear suspension air bags or actual SRS airbags? SLS being deleted makes for a lot less headaches vs always coming to rest on the bumpstops when the SLS air bag or pump go out!

Welcome to the forum.

Ask the owner if they are a member of any Land Rover forums. If they are, go there and search their posts!
Ask if they had any 3 amigos and if they did the Option B mod for the ABS module.
Ask if the front driveshaft is stock or has been replaced.
Ask if the moonroof leaks.
Ask if it has the Center Differential Lock (CDL) installed. A 2000 Disco 2 should have the CDL nipple.
Ask if the thermostat was ever swapped out and when. Hopefully a 180 degree soft spring thermostat was installed.
Ask if it has Secondary Air Injection (SAI) system.
Ask when was the last time the Crankshaft Position Sensor was replaced.

Ask all these questions and the seller know he is dealing with a real bad *** Land Rover enthusiast. lol

I bought mine with 199k miles on it and paid quite a bit more than that.
I had extensive maint records though and it had a lot of highway miles - not just a cliche this time
I have over 222k miles now and zero major issues - if you can turn a wrench that is........
My biggest maint item was valley pan leaking - just required getting the bolts tightened.
Other than that, just minor stuff, regular maint etc and it still runs great.
