Default Flashing 'P' and flashing crossed 'D'

Yesterday I experienced central locking/alarm problems on my Discovery 2 year 2000 V8 petrol.

That issue resolved by itself and thena new problem appeared where the dash showed a flashing 'P' andflashing crossed 'D', whenthe key wasin position 2 and also when the engine was started. The symbols were still present when I changed gears.

I couldnot see any information about the flashing and crossed 'D' in the handbook? Please advise.

If something is flashing then do not drive it. It indicates a serious problem.
I cannot point you in the right direction, but I can tell you not to drive it.

The symptom has stopped now and I have also driven the car. All seems to be fine, but I am just wondering what the symbols mean.

I would assume that the crossed "D" means do not drive. But the flashing "P" I have no idea.

I do not know if that is what it really means, but "D" is for drive and a cross through something is the universal symbol for dont do it.

I agree with spike, thats the Universal Sign of DO NOT

Circle with a Slash on D to me means DO NOT DRIVE or FACE CONSQUENCES IF DO DRIVE

Maybe the "D" with slash means do not drive and the flashing "P" means PARK IT. (don't take my word though).

Yes, circle with slash on "D" means do not drive. Do you think the "P" is for parking brake? As if it were engaged, so don't try to drive??
