This is the same active ingredient that is in Naval Jelly...it's a pink gel that contains phosphoric acid that can be used to remove/convert rust. Again, lots of hotrodders rely on this stuff. The trick is ensuring you get the metal fully clean after applying the phosphoric acid and letting it do its thing...and work in SMALL areas...don't think that you're going to hit the entire frame with acid-etch in one shot.
Good tip / point.

the thing I like about POR-15 is it likes to be applied to a "rusty" surface. if the surface is clean, it needs a primer etc before hand. The chassis will be washed / brushed of "heavy rust" and then POR applied. It will take a weekend to do I suppose a little at a time.

Will have to remove fuel tank, tow hitch etc etc to get to all the nooks and crannies at the rear end as thats the worst areas, the front end is fine at the moment.

Once its all done, will get a coat of waxoil to (hopefully) she will last a good lont time then.

Yeah, just a point I forgot to make clear- Undercoating will only be effective if you've removed any rust prior to putting it on. Put undercoat over rust and you've essentially done nothing.

well technically they advise you to hit it with
-marine clean
-metal prep
-por-15

So, I have to wonder a little if the POR-15's magic is really in the second step (metal prep/phosphoric acid). I do admit that the POR-15 paint is some heavy duty stuff by itself, but I've always followed the instructions.

anybody tried using those electronic anti rust proffing device? is it all hype or there's an actual science behind it. Some of the rust proofing shop down here in canada start using this type of rust prevention. I mean if it works with those big tanker boats that is subjected to salt water all the time why would it not work with our trucks. Rite?

My concern about "electrolisous" on my Rover would be frying the electronics.
