Default gas mileage

OK, I know this has been beaten dead, many times, but...

Since my '04 became my DD a few weeks ago, I notice it is only getting about 8-10 mpg. I am going to do all the routine stuff I aint had a chance to yet(plugs, wires, air filter, induction cleaning, etc). I was getting about 15 in my '98, but smaller tires, smaller engine, etc.

Is 8-10 far off what I can expect?? If a thorough tune-up don't help much, I may cut back a tire size or two.

I consistenly get 14.5 mpg with stock tire size and all our driving is a mix of rural country roads and city driving. 8-10mpg seems low unless you just really hammer down a lot.

No, I have been baby-ing it to see what I can get. Even taking spedo error in to account for the larger tires would still only put me at 11.5

I would hate to cut back to stock size tires, guess I will wait and see what a good tune brings.

That's probably as good as it gets with oversized tires. Have to figure out what is more important to you, mpg or better off road performance.

I get between 10-11 city and about 14-15 hwy with lift, 265/75 Duratracs, Winch Tray and SD rack. I have the Volo FS1 gas saver chip and when I was completely stock, I was getting 17-18 hwy pretty consistently, so it was a big drop with the tires.

Does the volo really work? I have seen them before, but am always leary.

Maybe I will drop back to something like a 255 or 265-70-16.

Grab a GPS and get some accurate mileage for the math. You may not be that bad but it seems to be that way since the numbers are wrong from the get go.

I average about 16 MPG on my stock D2. I do 75% highway driving and use it almost every day. I would say 8-10 is on the low side.

In my experience YES it works.

Pre-Volo : When I first got my truck I did a LOT of highway driving so I don't really know what my city numbers were, but I was getting 14-15 mpg's on with only a brush guard and stock size Michelin 255/55's.

----

After Volo : After install, I was getting 17-18 mpg's consistently, and maxed out at 19+ mpg's.

All of that has gone out the window with tires, winch, and rack
