Default Driveshaft Question

I have searched the read the posts about the front driveshaft problem. I have a 04 D2 SE, 53K. I am not mechanicallly inclined at all. Where should I take the truck to figure what needs to be done? Is the dealer a good idea?

Thanks.

Go to a driveshaft shop. They can make you one on the spot if need be.

I still have about 2 years left on my LR certified warranty. Am I better off paying out of pocket to get this issue resolved, or is it better to see what happens in the next 2 yrs. I assume that if the driveshaft fails and smashes my tranny, that this would be covered under the LR warranty?

Well if you still have warranty on it then yeah I would deffinatly take it to the dealer. I would'nt wait until it failed, if it has a problem now they should fix it for you.

He is talking about the double cardon failing, the dealer wont due squat right now, except sell you a new driveshaft.
Personally I wouldnt take the chance that it will be covered under warrenty, that is a $7,000 gamble.
Any drive line shop can rebuild the front driveshaft using greasable u-joints. That is what you need done.
I have zero faith in extended warrenties and if you take the gamble and you are wrong...

I had mine done on my 2004 disco at 97000 miles. I do most of my own work but have found that driveshaft work can be done reasonably at a local drive shaft shop. I inspected mine when it was removed and it was not worn out. I would recomend replacement or rebuild due to other input from members of the forum. I had all u joints replaced with greasable joints and the centering ball kit installed for $150.00 in Winston Salem NC. Only took about 2 hours for them to complete.
