Yea my vote would be based on common sense only, so that should trump working at rovers north ...especially if they use rtv on a trans pan!
Jokes aside, I've never used rtv on any trans pan but, rovers are a different animal and may need it?

I am replacing the gasket ,filter and fluid on my 04. When I removed the fill plug I had approx. 2-3 quarts of oil come out of the fill hole. Why/ how could this happen.

The fluid level is set/checked with the engine running and the transmission cycled through all the gears. This means that a lot of the fluid is pumped around the transmission and torque convertor, meaning less in the "sump".

I was planning on changing my fluid and filter and remembered I have some extra atf in the garage from when I flushed the tranny on my raptor. I'm not 100% it will work for the D2 though, so I thought I would check with yall before I did anything.Name: image_2.jpg

It doesn't appear to be the same Amsoil ATF I used, but I can check tomorrow if you shoot me an email. It's good stuff

Thanks man, I know it's not what amsoil recommends on their site, but I have read that dextron vi is backwards compadable for dextron iii, but I don't know for sure

I'll throw this one into the arena but you can take it for what it's worth. I use SP3 ATF which is a higher Japanese spec for autoboxes running at higher temps like most Japanese cars do. It is used in Mitsubishi trucks and is called Diaqueen SP3 ATF

I actually use this:

TITAN ATF 4400 - Fuchs.

which IMO and others is far superior to Dexron 3.

maybe this has been covered. but are you guys dropping the pan and changing the filter then doing 2 or 3 more pan drain/fills to try and flush most of the old fluid out. or are you doing the 3 drain/adding fluid then on the 3rd or 4 drain pull the pan and change the filter?

LR recommended changing filter on first service and just fluid changes thereafter. Seem to remember reading most do change filter on initial drain. Fortunately on D2s ropping the pan and installing filter is relatively easy part of the job.

My plan was to change filter on first drain/service, drain/refill a couple more times and do final one with another new filter. Purchased two filter kits and completed first drain/filter change so far. Trans shifts smoother and torque converter lock up now at lower speed/rpm.
