Default How do you clean the MAF?

I was looking at the 60k maintenance recomendationsand read that clean the MAF was one of them. What exactly is the procedure to do this and what do you clean it with? I have never cleaned a MAF before, but I am changing out the air filter tomorrow, so figure that is the time to do it. TIA...

DO NOT CLEAN THE MAF!!
If you clean it you WILL be buying a new one.
That 60k list needs modification, it is only partly correct.
The Bosch MAF is just way to sensative, that is also why you cannot use a K&N air filter, it will kill the MAF.

My list does not need to be modified other then if you are driving a D1 or Classic, other wise there is no flaw in it at all.
No where is it mentioned to clean the MAF.
Spike, show me where it is partly incorrect other then the type of coolant and p/s fluid which is different for older Rovers.

Well I have never read the entire60k list, I am only going by what others have said, avking said that per the list "clean the MAF" and I took him at his word, he's doing the list so he is reading it not me.
If that is in there then that is wrong.
You said that the type of coolant and PS fluid is wrong and I am taking you at your word.
Both of those being wrong are a valid mistake, you own a DII so you made a list for DII's.
Maybe a P.S. at the end for DI's and RRC's with the correct fluid types?

I don't have any experience cleaning a rover MAF, but the MAF to a Golf TDI is Bosch. All you need to do on that is spray it with electrical contact cleaner, there also is now MAF cleaner at the auto parts store... The cans cost about $5. It makes a big difference on the VWs to clean the MAF.

As I said, though,I have no experiencecleaning anLR MAF.

Would you like to reinburse every person who tries your suggestion and looses their MAF, you will go broke fast.

What is the deal with the MAF? I did a bunch of reading yesterday and cleaning a MAF as he described is VERY common (not saying specifically LR's). Have read very few issues of them failing as a result. is it just that the Disco MAF is a POS?

Yes, DII MAF's are POS.

I cleaned the MAF on my DI with carb cleaner almost 30,000 miles ago and have had no problems...that was before I knew better.

Just going from memory the 60K service lists to clean the throttle body, not the MAF.

Come on Spike, You have read enough of these post to remember the D2's and new RR use a Basch Maf, D1's and Classics have a more forgiving MAF that can be cleaned with pretty good results.
